Dangerous Goods – 24 Hour Emergency Response Contact Information

Critical Reminder: Regulations prescribe requirements for
providing and maintaining 24 hour emergency response information during transportation and when stored
incidental to transportation, or otherwise handled during any phase of transportation. The mandate
is to provide immediate information to support emergency responders handling of dangerous goods incidents.
(IE: Leak, fire, explosion, injuries, etc)
The 24 Hour Emergency Response Telephone Number and Contact MUST:
- Be clearly visible and identifiable on the DG Shipping Paper.
- Example, proceeded by the words: 24 HOUR EMERGENCY CONTACT:
- Include the Area Code, or if outside North America, include the international access code or the
"+" (plus) sign, country code, and city code as appropriate.
- Be monitored at all times, 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.
- The designated 24 hour emergency contact who is monitoring the phone needs to have immediate
knowledge of the hazards and characteristics of the materials being shipped /access to comprehensive
technical emergency response information in case of leak, fire, injury etc. (Such as information
found on MSDS/SDS )
- Contractual agreements with Third Party Emergency Response Information Providers such as CHEMTREC,
CHEMTEL or INFOTRAC are viable compliant solutions.
Non-Compliance: "Merchants" as defined by the "K" Line Bill
of Lading, whose shipments are determined to be in non-compliance will be held accountable for any and all related
penalties, and associated costs per under the Terms and Conditions of the "K" Line Bill of Lading,
