Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" Line) and Incorporated Nonprofit Organization Chiba University Students Committee for Environmental Management System (hereinafter called "Students Committee") reached an agreement for Satoyama Activities at "K" Line’s forest "Sarumachizuka" in October 2012 for implementation of forest preservation at "K" Line-owned idle property located nearby Narita International Airport in Chiba prefecture.
"K" Line and the Students Committee received the Certificate of Agreement for Satoyama Activities under the Chiba Prefecture Satoyama Ordinance (see note) and the Certificate of CO2 Absorption by forest preservation from Chiba prefectural government on February 5, 2013.
Satoyama as Japanese traditional rural landscapes has noticeable environmental issues in which forests go to ruin due to lack of maintenance by community’s lifestyle change. "K" Line and the Students Committee will contribute to preserve the Satoyama by volunteer activities with the goal of conservation of biodiversity, good landscape and edification of environmental awareness.
